Plzz help! i really want to have an aim but does it cause any viruses and is it safe?

hi im just wonder if u guys can tell me a little bout aim like the safe stuff the bad stuff that i should know about. and like does downloading it cause any kind of viruses 2 ur computer? ive gotten like viruses 3 x and i can not risk having another. plz help. : 3

The AOL download does not contain any viruses. All it may have is things like "Google Toolbar" and things you may not want. However, these can be uninstalled.

HOWEVER: As with any Internet activity, make sure you have an up-to-date virus scanner. Never hurts to be safe

AIM itself won't give you viruses. I would recommend using another Instant Messaging Client though. Trillian is an example of one, or GAIM. Which ever client you choose, make sure to set your privacy settings to some what restrictive levels. Viruses are most likely to come to you in messages from someone you don't know. Also be careful of the links even your good friends send you. They may not know they have a virus.
Several Thoughts:

1) Go download AVG at avg.com - Its a free virus scan/prevention program that works well.

2) Look into using something like jabber (jabber.com)
