I am considering purchasing a Macbook??? The right move??? and will running windows be vulnerable to

I am considering purchasing a Macbook, being strictly a PC owner and this will be my first mac!...I just need it for the basics :college work, Internet and your typical media stuff...I know you can run windows which will be major, however, MY numero uno question is.....if you run windows, will you run into catching viruses..the reviews say macs do not have problems with viruses but with windows OS...does this change the vulnerability???

Do go ahead and get a Macbook, and if you can afford it, a Macbook Pro. That said, yes you can run Windows. But a couple of things to be aware of. The new machines come with the latest Mac OS, Leopard, and it has Bootcamp built in. This lets you boot into EITHER Mac OS, OR Windows, but you have to buy and install a copy of Windows on the machine. AND if you connect to the Internet while using Windows, you still have the Windows vulnerability to viruses. It's still Windows, having it on a Mac does not automatically provide protection. So you will still want to run an antivirus program; probably a combination antivirus/security/anti spyware program or programs. Better to have it be safe.

The main reason Macs have a lot fewer virus problems is they are still a small percentage of the market, so most of the evil nasty people writing viruses and spyware are going after the big guys, and that's Microsoft.

i'm a converter too. converted after 2 yrs of using pcs and have been using mac for the past 15 yrs now--0 case of viruses. and the best thing is my ibook hard ever crushes or freezes. it's only the program you're currently using that shuts off, which is great. also great for arts/graphics, movies etc. apple stores are great in helping out for possible problems too. good decision!
