If I burn cds does this open my computer up to viruses?

My old man doesn't want me or the kids to burn cds on our computers. I want to burn some pictures on a cd, and the kids want to burn some music. He said if we do that viruses will come in. We have Norton, which works very good. Can anybody help me so that I may show him he's wrong or so I'll know not to do it.

Burning CD's is the same as copying files to a floppy disk. The only difference being that the CD will hold so much more than a floppy disk (5 1/4 or 3.5).

The way you get virus' are if they are emailed to you or if you go to websites that have illegal software or music on them.

Windows itself comes with software to copy files and music (MP3's) on to a CD and more than likely your system came with Nero burn.

lol, it sounds like your old man has techno fear, burning discs does not give you viruses or spyware of any kind, how would it? you need internet access to recieve viruses, and burning discs does not need internet access, think of it as a human trying to fly from earth to visit mars without a spaceship, no chance whatsoever! you got more chance getting spyware and viruses by visiting this website than burning cd's
burning is an output... like printing.

viruses come from inputs.

the only way to get a virus from burning is if you already had one on your computer and burnt the infected file to the cd and installed it onto another computer.
No, that won't open your computer to viruses. It's safe.
Burning files to CD will not infect your computer.
no definately not
